Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis)
Known as old-fashioned bleeding heart, Dicentra spectabilis is a classic perennial that has stood the test of time. Growing to around two feet in height and spread, these delightful plants grace the spring garden with heart-shaped pink blooms for weeks at a time. The only requirement is rich, fertile soil in sun or light shade. There is also a superb white variety and one with golden leaves.
Globe Flower (Trollius europaeus)
Trollius europaeus, or Globe Flowers, are one of the prettiest garden flowers blooming in late May and early June. The medium-sized flowers are bright lemon yellow in color and appear on tall stems above compact clumps of green leaves. Trollius performs best in moist soil and full sun. The plants go dormant by mid-summer, leaving space in the garden for summer blooming annuals.
