Mariani Donates Design and Installation for Chicago Flower and Garden Show
Mariani Landscape designed and installed a featured garden at the 2009 Chicago Flower and Garden Show, which takes place March 7-15, 2009 at Navy Pier in Chicago.
Produced in conjunction with Chicago Botanic Garden, Mariani Landscape’s garden theme is “Hope for the Healing Planet” and features environmental practices that people can make use of at home, including green roof techniques, permeable paving, locally grown plants and rain water collection.
Mariani Landscape Volunteers to Restore Nature Preserve in Grayslake with Liberty Prairie Conservancy
Mariani Landscape assisted Liberty Prairie Conservancy in the restoration of natural areas at Oak Openings, a 33-acre nature preserve in Grayslake.
Mariani donated 18 burr oak trees and supplied labor to clear away invasive species and establish a native oak savanna on a four-acre section of the nature preserve.
“Not only did Mariani take an unsightly, yet highly visible area and make it absolutely beautiful, they used the utmost care for the environment in the process,” says Sarah Surroz, Stewardship and Education Coordinator for Liberty Prairie Conservancy, which was established in 1995 by citizens concerned about development pressures in central Lake County.
“We are honored to help Liberty Prairie Conservancy because they provide educational opportunities for others to gain the knowledge and skills needed to preserve open space,” says Mariani President Fred Wacker.
Prior to the restoration, the site had several potholes inhabited by a small population of frogs. Mariani Landscape, along with a group of children, rescued the frogs before the potholes were graded over.
“By considering the preserve’s natural environment and showing extra care for its flora and fauna, we were able to help the conservancy create a beautiful, natural space that is enjoyed by all,” says Wacker.
